Sulfide minerals are another major component of the “R” category. Realgar, an arsenic sulfide, forms in low-temperature hydrothermal environments and is known for its bright red to orange color. However, it is unstable when exposed to light and can degrade over time into other arsenic minerals such as pararealgar. This sensitivity makes proper storage important for collectors.
